You’ll take in famous historic spots in the Shinsekai and Doyama districts, Doyama being Osaka’s largest and best-known gay district, and even stop for a sumptuous light meal with drinks.

Your insightful tour guide will provide a detailed and immersive history of Osaka’s LGBTQ+ culture and its evolution over the past century as you stroll between sites of importance to the community, seeing with your own eyes the places that have held such power for the LGBTQ+ community over the years.

Learn about the past (and sadly, in some cases, ongoing) struggles for acceptance suffered by the community in a society which has historically shunned homosexual relationships. Then learn about the resulting turn towards secret bars and saunas which provided a safe space. You’ll find that the Shinsekai neighborhood is still highly secretive about its underground gay scene, which predominantly centers around secreted-away bars, saunas, and an old-style movie theater screening gay movies. Shinsekai certainly feels like a bit of a time warp!

After strolling between the sights, you’ll settle down for some simply stunning food in a local restaurant - in a city famed for serving some of the best food in Japan, it would be a shame not to! Maybe you’d like to try some mouthwatering kushi katsu (deep-fried food on skewers) or delectable doteyaki (miso-infused slow-cooked beef). Whatever you fancy, your guide will help you find something fabulous on the menu!

The Doyoma district is quite different from Shinsekai, with a much more open atmosphere and an obvious scene that you’ll enjoy experiencing on your walking tour.
