Overview
Discover the historic Berlin Wall and Cold War legacy on this captivating guided bike tour, journeying around the pivotal sites of this somber chapter in Berlin's history.
Your adventure begins in Prenzlauer Berg, a vibrant neighborhood now populated by trendy boutiques and eateries. From there, you'll pedal onwards to Zionskirche, a symbol of resistance in East Germany.
Your next destination is Bornholmer Straße, the iconic location where the Berlin Wall fell. Here, you'll be transported back to a moment in history when the entire world held its breath. As you continue your bike ride through Mauerpark, with its gentle slopes and lush trees, you'll traverse the former Death Strip along the Berlin Wall, a place filled with history. Explore remarkable escape stories at Bernauer Straße, the sole fully-preserved segment of the Berlin Wall, frozen in time as it stood at the close of the 1980s, and the site of the Berlin Wall Memorial.
Your cycling tour takes you to Nordbahnhof, where you'll hear tales of the ‘Ghost Stations’, renowned for their haunting scenes witnessed by passengers in the abandoned, dimly-lit platforms. Witness the Kieler Eck, a former Berlin watchtower preserved as a memorial to victims of the GDR border troops, and behold the renowned Brandenburg Gate, once a symbol of a divided Berlin, now representing its unity. You'll pedal onwards to Checkpoint Charlie, a former border crossing transformed into a museum, offering opportunities to pose with guards in authentic uniforms.
Your bicycle tour concludes at the 'Palace of Tears', the former checkpoint located on Friedrichstraße. This poignant name reflects the heart-wrenching farewells between West Berlin visitors and their East Berlin relatives.
For an immersive Cold War day tour that’ll send shivers down your spine, your search ends here.
