Overview
The Island of Fyn, often referred to as the garden of Denmark, showcases why Denmark is considered one of the most beautiful countries in the world! The picture-book coastal towns, patchwork farmland fields, thatched farmhouses, and Renaissance castles add to the fairytale, and secluded beaches, woodlands, and orchards enchant!
You will experience for yourself why the Danes are considered one of the happiest people of the world. The famous Danish 'hygge', literally translated as 'fun', is actually more of an attitude towards life, a feeling of contentment or well-being. This is regarded as a defining characteristic of the Danes and is as much a part of their culture as cycling.
The water will be an important part of this cycling vacation as you explore the picturesque islands, connected by small ferries, that make the archipelago south of Fyn. The Island's flat terrain makes it a perfect tour for cyclists of all ages.

It is also the birthplace of the famous author, Hans Christian Andersen. Whether you wish to explore nature, quaint shops and cafes, or musuems and art exhibits, you will not run out of things to do in Odense. If you have rented bicycles, they will be waiting for you at the hotel. Sample accommodation: City Hotel Nattergalen
Day 2: Odense - Faaborg, 34 mi. (55 km)
If you didn't have time to hit all the highlights of Odense yesterday, there will be time this morning to further explore before hopping on the bike. A stop for lunch at the idyllic Brobyværk Kro (Brobyværk Inn) is recommended before you pedal into “The Alps of Fyn” – an undulating landscape from where you start overlooking the archipelago of Southern Fyn. Faaborg, an old harbor town, is your destination today. It's narrow streets lined with old houses and historic mansions make it a lovely place to stroll and take in the sights.Sample accommodation: Hotel Faabord Fjord
Day 3: Faaborg
Today offers more time to explore the coastal town of Faaborg or you can take a ferry to isles in the archipelago outside Faaborg: Bjørnø, Lyø and Avernakø. Each of these towns provide a unique look into the small populations that reside there and live their lives in close relation to nature and neighbors. Look forward to another night in Faaborg – which, by the way, offers some really nice dining possibilities.Sample accommodation: Hotel Faabord Fjord
Day 4: Faaborg - Ærø (Aeroe) - Svendborg, 16 mi. (25 km)
You’ll really get a first hand experience of the archipelago today! Take the ferry from Faaborg to the island of Ærø (Aeroe). The trip lasts one hour and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery. From the harbor Søby (Soeby) on Ærø, follow small roads to the fascinating town of Ærøskøbing (Aeroeskoebing). Old houses and cobblestoned streets, and interesting history will greet you! Remember your camera! From Ærøskøbing you take another ferry back to Fyn and arrives at Svendborg. If you prefer an alternative to the ferries and the visit to Ærø, you can bike directly from Faaborg to Svendborg which is approximately the same distance, but saves time and the costs of the ferries.Sample accommodation: Hotel Ærø
Day 5: Svendborg
Svendborg is a vibrant and exciting town with a lovely historical center. Shops and restaurants offer tasty, healthy and locally grown food, which has become a brand for South Fyn. You can explore the traditional wooden shipyard or visit the modern museum of natural history. Just next to the quay of the ferry from Ærø is “Træskibsbroen” (the wooden ships bridge), where you may see an array of old wooden ships. A daytrip to surrounding towns might also interest you or a visit to the castle Egeskov, hosting a fine collection of old cars and airplanes.Sample accommodation: Hotel Ærø
Day 6: Svendborg - Nyborg, 28 mi. (45 km)
From Svendborg, cycle to the idyllic town of Nyborg. Along the way, you'll pass local stands selling fruits and vegetables, and impressive old manor houses. Arriving in Nyborg, you'll see the Storebæltsbroen (Great Belt Bridge) which until recently, was the longest spanning bridge in the world. It's historical old town dates back to the early Middle Ages.Sample accommodation: Hotel Nyborg Strand
Day 7: Nyborg - Odense, 31 mi. (50 km)
From Nyborg, cycle north to the small and picturesque town of Keterminde, surrounded by farms. Recommended is a visit to the Fjord & Bælt-center where you can learn about and see harbor porpoise, seals, and different kinds of fish up close! Enjoy an ice cream at the harbor before making your way back to Odense, enjoying even more beautiful scenery, timbered houses, and lovely gardens along the way.Sample accommodation: City Hotel Nattergalen

Recommended
Svendborg, on the island of Funen, is the gateway to the archipelago and is the perfect start and end for your Danish bike tour and a wonderful place from which to extend your holiday to Odensee, the “capital” of Funen. Odense has it all: charming streets, fascinating museums, and galleries, inviting green parks and delightful cafés. Odense is also rightly known for being a remarkably bike-friendly city. In fact, there is no better way to explore this modern, lively and authentically “hyggelige” city than by bike. Ask us for suggestions!
